When I came to Watford I came to help them get better every day, to be recognised in the world, and in Brazil they are now talking about Watford

After beginning his career in his native Brazil, Gomes moved to PSV Eindhoven and turned out for the Dutch club in the UEFA Champions League.

The Brazilian goalkeeper's good form earned him a multi-million pound move to the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur in July 2008. Throughout his time at Tottenham he played in Europe, in both the Champions League and Europa League.

Following his release from Tottenham, Gomes made the short trip to Watford where he quickly became the Hornet’s number one keeper. He made over 40 league appearances in his debut season for the Golden Boys, playing a crucial role in the club’s promotion to the Premier League.

His performances continued to improve as the Hornets made their return to the top-flight, earning himself both the Players’ Player and Player of the Season awards at the end of the 2015/16 season.

Gomes went on to sign an improved contract until 2018 ahead of the 2016/17 season.

On the international stage, Gomes made his debut in 2003 in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. He got some regular playing time for his national side in 2006 and was part of their 2010 World Cup squad in South Africa.
