Latest from the Hornets’ treatment table as Watford prepare for the last game of 2016/17

Defensive pair Adrian Mariappa and Miguel Britos will face late fitness tests ahead of Watford’s final match of the season against Manchester City this Sunday (May 21).

Walter Mazzarri confirmed at his pre-City press conference this afternoon that Mariappa is a doubt for this weekend’s fixture having picked up a knock to the knee in training yesterday, while Britos will also be assessed having missed the Hornets’ last three games with a calf injury.

Watford’s back-line will already be without Sebastian Prödl, who is suspended following his sending off at Chelsea in midweek, while defenders Christian Kabasele (thigh) and Younès Kaboul (hamstring) remain sidelined.

Mazzarri also revealed that Troy Deeney has been suffering with a hip problem this week but the striker did return to training today.

Long-term absentees Roberto Pereyra and Mauro Zárate (both knee) will be missing.

Speaking ahead of what will be his final game as Head Coach, Mazzarri called upon the Watford supporters to create a special Vicarage Road atmosphere as the Hornets seek to finish the 2016/17 campaign in style.

“I would love the fans to create a very good environment on Sunday, as they have with every game, that will allow my players that go on the pitch to run even more than Manchester City, so that we will do similar as when we played against Chelsea,” he said.

“By doing this we will try to lower the difference between us and Manchester City, who I think are one of the best teams.

“If we play similar to how we did recently against Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton, but with a bit more attention to the episodes, we can get a result which I think we deserve.”
